According to, Dr John Garry from Queen’s University looked at young people’s attitudes to happiness in old age and how these attitudes affect their current health-related behaviour. The study suggests that while old age is somewhat associated with misery, loneliness and ill health, something can be done to alleviate the sufferings of our beloved oldies. The strong link between the belief that happiness declines with age is aggravated by the fact that the elderly are not given proper attention, support and care. These needs, both emotions and nourishment, should be given to the elderly so that they will be able to confront the distress of old age gracefully. This is basically the reasons why nursing homes are established. Considering the physical debilitation and failing health of our old people, the need for nursing homes has become more imperative than ever before. Old age is an inevitable of life, as Yeats described in his poem “When You Are Old.”
We have lots to be thankful for because we have a great number of nursing homes in the country. According to Dr. Heicks (2004), nursing homes provide what immediate family members cannot provide full time. Nursing homes for elderly who need 24 hour support for medical services and for personal needs maintain licensed nurses or state registered practitioners in their establishment to meet the needs of the patients. One day, you will get old like them. When you reminisce what has been, then you will understand their emotional situation. If you love your folks, you will not hesitate to make an effort to look after them personally or by means of looking for some nursing homes, there’s no reason why our beloved oldies shouldn’t look forward to a happy and fulfilled old age.
